my favourite dress Add as Favorite Photo

Saying a certain dress is my favourite, is a big call. I’m a dress fiend + have so many that I absolutely adore – but this one has my heart. It was my Mum’s from the 70s and is just perfection in a dress. I love that it was my Mum’s + she only kept two for me so I treasure them both! The other one is a possibility for my Melbourne Cup dress, so you might see it then!!
I wore this last Saturday while we were camping as it’s a great dress to pull on over swimmers + to relax in. It makes me happy. I’m stoked that ruffles + florals are making it into the limelight at the moment, as I’ve been finding some great pieces (such as the Zimmermann one piece) that really fit in with my style, this isn’t the usual case with trends + me so I’m a little excited!
Thanks Mum for saving this beautiful dress!!

I feel like I live for the weekends, and when Friday has come around for another week, I seem to get pretty damn excited. But man, that sounds really sad though. Like I’m just another drone in this rat race we call work and I just keep running in the same circles… This morning I’ve even had that ‘heigh-ho’ song in my head, the one the dwarves sing in Snow White.. weirdo!!
Ok, I realllly need this holiday I’ve got coming up next week!
Just went for pure comfort for work today with my comfiest jeans + this lovely pastel/watercolour oversized top. It’s actually a kinda gloomy/rainy day – I hope it doesn’t hang around for the weekend! I’m keen to hit the beach, so fingers crossed! Haven’t decided if I’ll do the op shop rounds in the morning, I had such a good haul on my last spree + I’m wondering whether my expectations are now too high! And poop at our crappy Aussie dollar at the moment, it’s totally thwarting my potential online shopping from the states! Hey I think this gloomy weather has put me in a bit of a gloomy mood – come back sunshine, I love you!

a thing for negligee Add as Favorite Photo

A couple of weeks back, I had a particularly super lucky op shopping spree. I found this.. top/cape/shrug/thing.. on my travels + couldn’t believe someone hadn’t already snapped it up! It’s in perfect condition with lovely cream lace, ribbon + pleat detailing, I think perhaps it is a form of nightwear or negligee? I have a thing for granny negligee it would seem!
I’ve been wanting to incorporate it into an outfit since I found it, but it’s one of those pieces where you have to be in the right mood to wear it, or you feel like a crazy person. I didn’t feel like a crazy person when I put it on this morning, so it is making it’s first appearance. I totally heart it.
I’m damn tired today, I had to sit in front of the computer at 12am this morning to snag myself some tickets to Big Day Out (Australian music festival in January). I luckily got my tickets in time, as they sold out in about 10 minutes + I couldn’t be bothered lining up all night at one of the ticket outlets in an attempt to get some. Dirty dirty scalpers are making it nearly impossible to get tickets to festivals these days, unless you’re prepared to pay a ridiculous amount on eBay for them, which I’m not. I’m stoked we got them as BDO is where Mick & I met in 2002, so this one coming will be 7 years since we met.. man that sounds like a long time! Can’t wait for the festivities, I hope the line up gets better though – fingers crossed!

my favourite skirt Add as Favorite Photo

Yep, Wednesday 8th October signals the return of my ever favourite vintage green skirt. It’s back better than ever having spent a little vacation away at my tailor getting a few adjustments. Previously I created a bit of a paperbag effect at the back of the skirt to be able to wear it on my waist. I thought I might like the option of being able to wear it on my hips, but I decided the hip option looked a little frumpy on me, so it is now forever a perfect fitting high waisted skirt – yay! (The matching blazer also had a little nip/tuck + is now even more fabulous! One coldish day soon it will make an appearance, but in the meantime I’ll enjoy the beautiful sunshine!)
Fell in love with this top at first sight, I’m sure it will be a spring/summer favourite. I actually have a hard time finding tops I really like, so when I find a good one that I love I tend to get a little excited. I would say that tops are the hardest thing for me to source/find/love in my wardrobe – whenever I make a list of what I need/want for my wardrobe, tops always seem to be on there. Maybe because it’s hard to find nice ones on my op shopping adventures? I don’t know, but it annoys me having to always be on the hunt for a good top.
Speaking of ‘top’: the other day, my boss thought he saw a man walking down the street with a top hat on. I ran to the window to catch the maybe-top-hat-wearing fellow, but it turned out it was just a regular hat. It got me thinking though and I really should think people should start rocking out the top hat. I would totally high 5 them.

PS: totally don’t know why my hair looks so red in these photos, but at least you can see that it’s not actually black, like most people seem to think.

I had a terrible case of Mondayitis yesterday, for some reason almost wanting to have a little teary session when I got to work. I think I need a holiday! Mick + I are actually going away for a few days next weekend, so I’ve got that to look forward to! Ahh well, it was all made better when I got home and two things happened. 1: the house was sparkling clean, our housemate had totally spring cleaned the entire house – bathroom, toilets, mopped + vacuumed.. everything! this job is usually left to me, so it felt so good to come home + it was already done. 2: my super fantastic 50’s dress from eBay was awaiting me! It was wrapped in tissue paper with a ribbon tie and hand a sweet hand written note, it made my day!
So of course, I’m wearing the wonderful dress today to work!! It is amazing and I love it, and totally feel the need to own a petticoat already, imagine if the skirt was even poofier – perfection!! I have quite small shoulders, so I felt a bit overwhelmed by the top part at first: the high neck and where the sleeves ended. I contemplated whether I should tailor this to a different neckline, but after putting my hair up I decided it had a very Audrey vibe, if she was to wear sweet pastel floral frocks! So the dress is staying as is!! It even has it’s own little matching belt, which I adore! I wish all my vintage frocks still had their matching belts!
I went for a super sweet look today, so I opted for these cream heels + my lovely Mimco hair comb and crystal opal studs. I needed a toned down bag, usually I would have gone for my cream vintage glomesh clutch, but I needed one big enough to lug all my work stuff with me, so I whipped out this old favourite, I still adore it! Also, I am planning to read up on my old 1967 copy of Flair magazine + teach myself how to do some lovely 60’s hair styles, imagine how great a beehive would look today! I am determined to conquer the 60’s do!!

Yesterday was a good day, but made even better by the appearance of a box on my kitchen bench at home with US post marks. Yep, my beloved wooden platforms from Nasty Gal Vintage had arrived! They are massive and super dooper rad + I am 100% stoked with them, even though our poop Aussie dollar made the cost of them plus shipping around the $100 mark. They could probably fit someone with a teeny bit bigger foot then me, (cause I can see in the photos there is a bit of room at the back) but to walk in they feel perfect + comfortable. Holy yay!!
Also, Aussie girls, get your hot little butts into Sportsgirl for these gorgeously comfy AA deep v rip off tees! This one is called ‘peach marle’ and me and my sorbet/pastel/comfy loving self are completely in love. From what I could see it came in light grey + white as well and they are $29.95, which I think works out a tad cheaper than the AA Australian site. I hope they get some other colours in soon, I can see myself loving this to death through summer! Man, I’m such a Sportsgirl ho.. they need to organise VIP cards already!!
