melbourne cup 2009 Add as Favorite Photo

On Tuesday, I celebrated Melbourne Cup at my local turf club. And I backed Shocking for the winner – yahoo!!
I went for a lilac/purple + tangerine/orange theme with Luella’s Spring 09 collection as my main inspiration. I’m very happy with how it came together + really loved playing with bright colours on the one day in the racing season when you can really go all out with fun/colourful/vibrant outfits.
There were nearly 400 entrants overall for Fashions on the Field with so many gorgeous looks. I was lucky enough to make it through to the final 16!
• I found the lilac Seduce silk beaded dress at Dot Wears a Dress, reduced from $280 to $40, so I knew it was meant to be + it was the building block for the rest of my outfit! It had spaghetti straps, which I didn’t like so using the extra material from the hem, I sewed a halter strap + beaded it to continue on with the lovely beading from the bodice.
• I located a 50s skirt pattern at Spotlight + this gorgeous purple floral fabric from a local craft store and my Nan’s friend Joyce made it + the interfaced bow belt up for me (I wore a petticoat underneath that I had made for my Magic Millions outfit in January).
• I found the Miss Shop suede purple pumps @ Myer for $79 reduced to $56 so I used my Myer gift card I won from Caulfield Guineas finals + they cost me a total of $6!
• For the bag, I hand-sewed extra fabric from the skirt onto this tapestry bag I found at The Village Markets (using my $200 voucher!) + secured it with an orange rose + a couple of vintage brooches.
• I found the orange vintage gloves on Etsy + I made my Flair Vintage headpiece from scratch!
So overall it was not a very costly exercise, more of a creative endeavour – of which I am very stoked with the final ‘product’!!
(To tell you the truth, undertaking this fun project has made me crave that such work in creating/styling was my full time job!)

I had a last minute decision to head to the Eagle Farm races for Caulfield Guineas day – stoked my outfit came together in time + I even was one of the top 10 finalists for MYER fashions on the field for the QLD final for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival!!
I had such a great day with handsome hubby – it’s always so much fun to get dolled up!!
I wore vintage gold stud earrings, nude platforms from Spendless Shoes, vintage clutch, vintage gloves, dress from Harah Designs on eBay (that I customised into one shoulder w/ curtain fabric+ created a beautiful Louis Vuitton inspired bow belt w/ layers of chiffon + a vintage brooch), Flair Vintage headpiece created by me from new + vintage pieces + last but not least MAC Morange lippy.
The paper also ran a little article on Melbourne Cup day, which I’ve included + you can enlarge on my blog :)
I’ve been included in the Gold Coast’s 50 Best Dressed for 2009, if you feel like voting, please head to: http://www.50bestdressed.com.au

Playing amongst the garden in the perfect summer maxi dress on a perfect Spring day. Simple pleasures are the best!
I was stoked to find this gorgeous dress in the racks of many beautiful dresses at Tree of Life (worn here with a vintage belt). It is a great fit, made from a light breathable fabric + is the perfect length – which is hard to find when you’re only 160cm tall! Perfect for picnics, cocktails, throwing over bikinis, working from home… a great all rounder! I love how the top section reminds me of my beloved Zimmermann one piece, but at a fraction of the cost!
Working as usual today, then off to the Gold Coast Bulletin head offices for a photoshoot for the Gold Coast’s ‘50 Best Dressed’ that they are running! I was asked a few weeks ago if I would be a part of it + I am so extremely flattered to be asked so of course I’ll give it a whirl! I don’t know a lot of details about it yet – but there will be photos + a site up in the near future as the public can vote as well as the judges! I have to pick a daytime look + an evening look that reflects my style + get these looks photographed today. I think I’ve nailed down what I’ll wear – it can be a little difficult to pinpoint your aesthetic/style into a couple of photos – but I’m going with things that I love, that make me feel happy + me and giving it my best!! Will give you more updates when I know more.
Have a beautiful day!!

marketeering! Add as Favorite Photo

On Saturday, I was so ecstatic to find out I’d won The Village Markets ‘Polyvore Savvy Styler’ competition for my ‘Memoirs of Spring’ entry, which meant I was the lucky winner of a $200 voucher to spend at any of the stalls at The Village Markets on Sunday!!
I had planned to check out the markets already (to boost my Summer wardrobe) so imagine my excitement at having a bonus $200 to spend!! As you can probably guess, I was up bright + early and ready to start my treasure hunt as soon as the markets opened at 8am. The voucher was valid for this market + the next, but as I’ll be holidaying @ Airlie Beach when the next markets are on, I had to make the best use of my voucher on Sunday :)
My marketeering outfit for the day! Hat: The Hat Store, Top: Kaala, Shorts: Just Jeans, Shoes: Andrea+Joen, Belt/Bag: vintage, Bracelets: vintage + Tree of Life.

On Friday night, The Beautiful Girls filmed their new film clip @ Neverland Bar in Coolangatta + being a local gig, a bunch of great friends were there for the fun times! It was a great night, and still very easy-going despite a camera crew trying to get an official video together! There was an awesome vibe + everyone was there with a smile on their dial :)
There was a dress code which was ‘black, red or gold only – we want you too look hot/jazz/elegant/classy/rock+roll’ and it was so fantastic to see the whole crowd getting into the theme! Very keen to see the final result – the new album is due for the release early next year..
What I wore – vintage slip, red/coral dress from eBay, Flair Vintage head-chain (worn as belt), Guess heels (these are becoming the usual suspects!), vintage bag/jewellery + trusty Big W hoops. I liked this outfit (for something different than the default choice of black for the evening) but I can’t wait to summer-fy it a little bit more + wear it in the daytime!

So, Friday night was an absolute blast. Started off with punch + girls @ home, then onto our local haunt to see our mate’s band play their first official big gig – they absolutely rocked it! Was an awesome night + so many friends came out of hibernation + everyone was up dancing, don’t think a better night could have been had!
My outfit – plunging V floral ruffle dress from eBay, worn with a beige lace slip underneath, usual gold jewellery/hoops, Guess tan heels, vintage gold/aqua bag + 1000 hour ‘Vogue’ false lashes.
The dress is a recent eBay purchase – so I decided it’s debut was a night out on the town! Was $28.50 incl. postage + handmade from vintage floral fabric – it’s very cute and can be worn with the plunge on the front, or the back. It’s a little big so I cinched it in with beige ribbon + it was all good to go!
I loved this outfit – it was cute + comfy and I even got the lashes on without a fuss – LOVE getting dressed up!!
