i know you can’t tell just by looking at the photos, but i have to let you in on a little secret: i’m not wearing anything vintage today. i have a deep love for all things vintage and always wear at least one vintage piece in all of my outfits. i just prefer to buy thrifted and vintage clothes because they’re super affordable and more unique than your usual trendy “high street” pieces. but on some rare occasions, i have to admit that it is rather refreshing to get decked out in brand new clothes. though i always keep true to my style; you can see that these are all timeless classics. a breton stripe shirt, rayban wayfarers, and kork-ease wedges? they might as well be vintage and you can certainly thrift pieces just like these!
though for good measure, i ended up throwing on a vintage jacket before i left for the day!
and i must also take a moment to give credit where credit is due, because after buying this awesome pair of trousers the other day, i knew i had to pair them with a breton stripe shirt, inspired by tracy rosenbaum (assistant to the sartorialist) as pictured in my post about trousers found here.

this is the second time in one week that i felt the urge to dress up like a valentine. then i realized that there is a forever 21 sweetheart contest going on and i thought it would be a nice excuse to dedicate a post to my sweetheart, brendan. every day, rain or shine, he follows me around to snap pictures of my outfits to post on my blog. i really and truly appreciate his enthusiasm and support and i really don’t think i could do it without him. i love you, brendan!

first off, omg you guys! i got selected as one of the winners of the chictopia 10 contest. i am honored to have been chosen to be part of such a special group of girls and i am very excited to meet all of you who will be attending this year. thank you so much to the awesome community here at chictopia!
second, i am now in the middle of planning out which pieces to bring with me while i’m in new york for fashion week. i know it’s going to be freezing cold, so i will be sure to bring plenty of coats and weather appropriate shoes for when i’m walking around, but what about party outfits? i recently ordered this awesome “mini dress” from gilt groupe, but once it arrived, i discovered that it is clearly not a dress. i’m 5’5" and this baby is barely covering my lady bits. i styled it up the way i would want to wear it if it were but a few inches longer, so i ask you: what are your suggestions for how to keep the same basic concept of this look, but without the dangerously short hemline?

it’s only wednesday and i’m already feeling the need for a super casual outfit. i actually started off with a sheer blouse from the 1940’s with black bra underneath, before i quickly decided that i would be having no such adventures for today, thank you. instead, i will be super cool and chill out in my canadian tuxedo, and maybe do a little shopping while i ponder the meaning of lost and try to wrap my head around the new season that started last night. omg did you guys watch it? i’m still a little stunned and i don’t know what to think. parallel universes? what?
ahem. back to the outfit. my boyfriend really liked this look and said i look like an arteest. a bohemian, if you will. then he asked me if i would find him a shirt like this. cute!

haha! when i was uploading today’s outfit, i got “mixed bizness” by beck stuck in my head.
this outfit was originally influenced by my love for marc jacobs s/s 2009 and miu miu s/s 2010, but once i actually got it on, all i could think about was nicki grant “big love.” perhaps that’s because i’m just as obsessed with that show as i am with miu miu and marc. i also kinda think i slightly resemble a hot dog in this outfit. ah, the inner workings of my mind. now you know what i think about when i get dressed!

oh hello, february, i didn’t see you there! but now that you’re here, i suppose we’ll hang out for the next 28 days. and right smack in the middle, we’ll celebrate valentines day. i know we’re not quite there yet, but i figured i would have fun with two of my newest acquisitions and experiment with a festive outfit for the occasion.
